Popkomm, September 8-10

Norwegian vibes in Berlin

by Webmaster, 05.10.2010

Ten Norwegian acts took to the stage during the days of Popkomm 2010.

Ten Norwegian acts took to the stage during the days of Popkomm 2010. All ten acts were presented with Music Export Norway as partner, and also with the support of the Norwegian embassy in Germany.

Berlin Festival acts Therese Aune and Megaphonic Thrift, as well as the fuzzing rock band Simon Says No!, represented the melodic pop and rock in Berlin’s capital this week, when the city was filled with new sounds and vibes.

Megaphonic Thrift manager Lars Øgreid sums up Popkomm and Berlin Festival like this:

- For us, the trip to Berlin very successful. As the band played at both Popkomm and the Berlin Festival we got a very nice contrast between playing for businesspeople one night, and around 1200 spectators in a hangar on the following afternoon. The feedback has been good, and things may indicate that the showcases will play a positive role with regards to future visits to the region.

Jazzing it out

In front of a packed Frannz Club in Berlin’s Kulturbrauerei, voice mastress Beate S. Lech and her band Beady Belle were treated like stars, and the following act Farmes Market spread smiles among the the jazz audience when they lived it up with their own takes on everything from disco to Norwegian classics history. Rounding up the evening with Elephant 9’s dark droning jazz-rock, this was definitely a successful nights during Popkomm’s jazz program.

Later the same week, on Thursday, label Smalltown Supersound and its biggest stars Lindström & Christabelle, Annie, Mungolian Jet Set and Diskjokke filled up the beautiful techno mecca beside the river Spree. One should be careful to say that Norway can learn Berliners a thing about club music, but this night the Norwegian acts created a fantastic vibe. Dj reports tell us that the party did not stop until early Friday morning.
