Norway at WOMEX in Seville -06

There was a lot of activity at the Norwegian stand during the whole conference, and the brunch arranged by Music Export Norway attracted the wished-for attendance. Karl Seglem, playing a goat horn, provided accompanied for the brunch, which included fenalår (traditionally prepared sheep leg), flatbread and brown cheese.

For the first time a Norwegian band was found on the official showcase program. Adjagas (trans. Made Sure To) gave the audience a magical concert and a modern journey in the manifold universe of the Joik (traditional Lappish singing). The response to the showcase was great, and showed that the two young Joikers had hit the right note with the audience.

Karl Seglem also played this year’s Womex festival. Seglem, who is releasing an album, gathered a tent full of enthusiastic listeners, and the showcase was later characterized as one of the best of the festival. As Sigbjørn Nedland from NRK’s Jungelpatruljen (The Jungle Patrol) said, "I don’t think I experienced an atmosphere that good at any other concert during this year’s WOMEX." Karl Seglem himself reported being approached by the industry and a great deal of attention from international participants. He especially received massive attention from bookers and promoters, from which he received several concrete offers following his showcase.
