The Great Escape has established itself as the leading event in Europe for showcasing new talent from around the world, aimed at 'export ready' bands and Industry Professionals.

TGE takes place in Brighton, UK over three days and nights every May with a total attendance of over 15,000 people including 5,000 industry professionals. A variety of insightful industry talks, panel debates, targeted networking sessions and key note interviews are run alongside performances from 350+ new local and international artists, themed parties and club nights in over 34 different venues.

Five Norwegian acts

This year The Great Escape has booked Katzenjammer, Megaphonic Thift, Ingrid Olava, Simon Says No and Susanne Sundfør to play the prestigious festival. In addition to this Music Export Norway will support Norwegian Industry professionals going to Brighton to build a closer relationship with the international industry. Music Export Norway thinks it’s important that the Norwegian industry professionals who discovers, develop and manage the artists, attend international music conferences such as The Great Escape.

Previous years the Norwegian showcases have resulted in international attention from important industry professionals. I Was a King signed a deal with International Talent Booking as a direct result of their TGE showcase in 2009, while The New Wine was selected as one of the highlights of TGE 2009 by the festival. Thomas Dybdahl was booked for the Latitude festival (30 000 attendance) after his TGE showcase, and the event has proven very important for Casiokids, who received several festival gigs and a lot of media attention after their appearance in 2009.

Ja Ja Ja goes to Brighton

There will also be a special Ja Ja Ja night at the festival curated by Niall Doherty from The Fly. The monthly Ja Ja Ja night at the Lexington has seen people like Huw Stephens (BBC1), Simon Raymonde (Bella Union), Steve Lamacq (BBC6), Alexander Milas (Metal Hammer), Sean Adams (Drowned in Sound) and John Kennedy (XFM) curate nights with some of the best up and coming Nordic acts around today.

Following on from the London gigs Ja Ja Ja are hosting a brilliant showcase of Nordic talent at the Great Escape this year with a line-up consisting of Susanna Sundfør (Norway), Jakko & Jay (Finland) and For a Minor Reflection (Iceland).
