31ST OCTOBER – 4TH NOVEMBERLow Frequency in Stereo, 120 Days and Don Juan Dracula at CMJ2006-12-18 The CMJ Music Marathon was recently held in New York and featured three Norwegian bands playing a showcase under the banner Norway Støy (Norway Noise). The showcase was made in cooperation Vice Records and the Norwegian Consulate in New York, with Music Export Norway providing travel funding for the bands. All the bands gained considerable attention CMJ, or College Music Journal, is an event bureau and a publisher. In addition to releasing weekly music updates to the industry and college radio stations in the U.S. (as well as the music magazine CMJ New Music Monthly), the organization also arranges the CMJ Music Marathon at Lincoln Center in New York. This year’s festival boasted over 800 bands playing over 1,000 concerts. CMJ is therefore one of the world’s largest display windows for indie bands. Low Frequency In Stereo, 120 Days and Don Juan Dracula were all invited to play at this year’s festival. Low Frequency in Stereo did several concerts at CMJ, and during the showcase at The Cake Shop, an exited Michael Stipe (REM) was observed in the audience. Stipe said, ”This is great!” and bought all of the band’s albums before moving onwards... The band also did a live radio concert at KEXP, one of North America’s most popular independent radio stations on the web. Low Frequency in Stereo is licensed to the American record company Gigantic Music through the Norwegian label Rec 90. Derek Evers at Gigantic stated that a lot of attention was directed toward the band and that the company is working on setting up a tour for the summer. Don Juan Dracula also made itself noticed in the large mass of bands, and got many reviews, including one from the respected internet site Pitchfork, whose representative stated that the band was among his favourites at CMJ. The band’s management is currently in dialog with several larger companies. 120 Days has already proved that the hype around the band is absolutely well earned. The band played a series of concerts during the five day festival, and was a name found on everyone’s lips. |
