Jazzy vibes at Silver City Sounds
by Webmaster, 05.08.2010
The international export program Silver City Sounds was held for the third consecutive year during the Kongsberg Jazz festival this summer.
Norwegian jazz industry delegates spanning from promoters and agents to record companies and distributers, networked with international delegates from Sweden, Denmark, Hungary, Lithuania, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Netherland, Switzerland, Canada, UK and USA.
The delegates were introduced to a broad variety of cutting edge Norwegian jazz, among these were Jaga Jazzist, Zanussi 5, Lord Kelvin and saxophonist Kjetil Møsters new quartet MØSTER! The Silver City Sound program also included morning sessions at Storaas Hotel where the delegates stayed. These morning sessions included a historical seminar about The Henie Onstad Art Center by Lars Mørch Finborud, a showcase by Zanussi 5, and an open interview with saxophonist Håkon Kornstad and drummer Martin Horntveth by AllAboutJazz editor John Kelman.
Kelman has written an extensive report from the festival. Read it on AllAboutJazz.com.
Feedback from some of the participants:
"Thank you all for the great time in Kongsberg - thanks to Oyvind and Eirik for organizing it so well. I discovered some real good new acts, especially Møster was unbelieveable. The best concert I've seen for a long time." - Matthias Wendl, Germany
"Music, hot water, light always everywhere, up and down the bridge, so nice you've been, so big pleasure the conversation together, jazz lovers are often sweetly surprising!" - Francesca Scardini
"Thank you all for sharing the vibe, the light, the music, conversations, bus rides, bus rides and bus rides, meals, crossing the bridge ... and a big thank you to the organisation offering these wonderful days in a unique ambiente like this and especially to Oyvind and Eirik to make it happen so pleasantly. Diversity and good mixture of familiar and new, revelation and surprise, small and big, amazing and touching!" - Henning Bolte, Netherlands
