Ja Ja Ja Celebrates its Two-Year Anniversary
by Webmaster, 01.11.2011
On 24th November Ja Ja Ja celebrates its second birthday!
That’s right, two whole years of bringing you the best Nordic music: Niki & The Dove, Team Me, When Saints Go Machine, Arabrot, LCMDF, Kvelertak, Deathcrush, Battlekat...I could go on. Not to mention the music industry’s crème of the crop curating individual and wonderfully eclectic nights, crossing the spectrum of genres: John Kennedy (XFM), Huw Stephen (BBC Radio 1), Sean Adams (Drowned in Sound), Simon Raymonde (Bella Union), Stuart Clarke (Music Week), Stephen Bass (Moshi Moshi) John Doran and Phil Hebblethwaite (The Quietus/Stool Pigeon), Alexander Milas (Metal Hammer).
Ja Ja Ja has broken bands (and we suspect the capacity limit on many occasions), introduced UK music lovers to the wonders of Nordic music and given London based Nordic folk a taste of home. Most of all, it’s been a lot of fun.
It was only back in August that Ja Ja Ja launched a first-of-its kind blog covering the best in Nordic music: www.jajajamusic.com, with fresh content posted daily by a devoted team of respected UK writers. Now to celebrate its anniversary Ja Ja Ja are giving fans another very special treat….Ja Ja Ja’s first ever Digital Album!
The Line-Up:
Marit Larsen:
So there was no way we were going to have a two-year anniversary shaped Nordic knees-up without bagging Marit Larsen. The. Biggest Star in Norway (not to mention Germany, Switzerland and Austria). Her debut ‘Under the Surface’ (2006) went gold in only three weeks with the single ‘Don’t Save Me’ won a place in the Norwegian charts for five weeks as well as various awards incl. MTV Europe Music Award for “Best Norwegian Artist”. Her follow up album ‘The Chase’ (2008) included the track ‘If A Song Could Get Me You’: which orbited the Norway single chart for twenty-four weeks! Larsen to date has sold over 300 000 singles and 250 000 albums. Her third album ‘Sparks’ is released in the aforementioned territories this winter, before she tours in the new –year. French Films – a Finnish five-piece - make the kind of sunny surf rock and new wave that gets tastemakers like Pitchfork swooning. This year they released their first EP ‘Golden Sea’, followed by their album ‘Imaginary Future’ full of sunny and cloudy sounds, wide echoes, young energetic drive and escapist vocals. Cue blog-love-onoverdrive (“weird electronic surf-pop with a heavy Joy Division influence, but who manage to remain on the right side of all things FUN” – Illegal Tender …..”imagine skateboarding in the sun with your hair blowing behind you actually, if you think about the opposite of a Helsinki winter, Golden Sea would do well to serve as the soundtrack
to your daydream” – Culture Belly) a tour of eleven different countries and one of the coolest accolades ever – (aptly) inclusion on the soundtrack of several surf movies.

Sóley may be recognizable for she has toured the world as part of respected band Seabear. Solo her work has been likened to Joanna Newsom (minus her harp). Her debut EP ‘Theatre Island’ released last year and debut album ‘We Sink’ released in September won glowing reviews for their hazy compositions of evolving piano:
shimmering to dark and rich. It’s, however, her “incredible vocal” – In Forty which cements the music’s captivating intimacy and quirkiness. Download album track ‘I’ll Drown’ for free here.
