Kongsberg Jazz Festival
Great atmosphere at Silver City Sounds
by Webmaster, 05.08.2011
The international export program Silver City Sounds was held for the fourth consecutive year during the Kongsberg Jazz festival this summer.
The project focuses on bringing Norwegian jazz out to international festivals, venues, agencies, record companies, distributors and other actors in the jazz business.
The guests of this year’s Silver City Sounds, about 30 participants, included delegates from Serious (UK), F-Cat Productions (Germany), Porgy & Bess (Austria), Red Sea Jazz Festival (Isreal), Taktlos (Switzerland), Jazz Japan (Japan), All About Jazz (USA), Good Music Company (Netherlands) and Perspectives Festival (Sweden).
Several Norwegian industry professionals also participated in the event. Amongst these were regional jazz centers, Atterklang (formerly AIM Records), Concerts Norway, Kjell Kalleklev Management and Rune Grammofon. The program also included networking sessions and concerts with some of the finest Norwegian jazz can offer, as well as seminars and an exclusive showcase with Frøy Aagre.
Check out a festival review by Silver City Sounds participant Jo Woodard at All About Jazz.
Silver City Sounds is supported by The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Feedback from some of the participants:
"If there is an event in which you can combine excellent and cutting edge avant-garde jazz from Norway with networking on a uniquely personal level with your fellows from all over the world, Silver City Sounds is it. The experience is outstanding and makes you feel at home within the beautiful Norwegian landscapes and open culture. A perfect setting to explore business opportunities with the top of the jazz music industry and to discover why Norway is one of the leading countries in innovative jazz music." - Mike Bindraban, Good Music Company
"I'm travelling a lot around the world not to see another mountain or to swim in another lake. The most important thing for me is to talk to people, to laugh with them, to listen with them to some amazing musicians (we had a lot in this festival), to exchange experiences, and even to dance with them and be with them in a hot/cold tub - that's what it called networking. I had all of that and more during the last days in Norway, and I'm sure we'll stay in touch and meet again somewhere, sometime. Thanks for your marvelous company and thanks to Øyvind and Pål for hosting us in such a perfect manner." - Dubi Lenz, Red Sea Jazz Festival
"Just wanted to drop a line and offer my great thanks for making this trip happen for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the festival , as well as the atmosphere of the town itself (and that magical river). Plus, it was great to meet you and the rest of the posse gathered there. Hope we cross paths again. My interest in Norwegian jazz and festival culture is definitely on the upswing these days, a trend which Kongsberg helped confirm." - Jo Woodard, All About Jazz
"Just wanted to thank you and your organisation once more for the invitiation and exposing us to this very special festival, for your excellent organisation and making our stay so relaxed and pleasant. I really loved the idea of making a whole city sound for four days, opening up so many different (also non-)venues to the public, including such as wide spectrum of music and hereby broadening the audiences also for more experimental types of music. Well done!" - Ute Pinter, Open Music / Jeunesse / Impuls
